School Performance Reporting and Data

Overview

• Schools use a range of data and performance reporting products to inform school improvement and planning.
• Schools can use Panorama to identify strengths and potential areas for improvement through interactive dashboards and reports.
• Schools also receive a School Performance Report during term 4 to support the development of their next annual implementation plan (AIP).
• The department uses the differentiated school performance method (DPSM) to synthesise key student outcomes data into performance groups for each school.
• Professional learning is available to help schools interpret their School Performance Reports and use school data most effectively.

School Performance Reports

School Performance Reports are generated each year and contain details of how the school has performed on a selected set of student outcome measures, compared to all other government schools, by allocation to a performance group.

School performance groups are categories of reporting school performance that sit alongside Panorama dashboards and other reporting products.

The level of detail provided by the School Performance Report supports schools to improve their strategic planning by identifying key areas for improvement and enabling schools to access targeted supports for improved outcomes.

The Resources tab provides technical documents that describe the method used to determine performance groups from key measures and a FAQ document.

Accessing a School Performance Report

To access a School Performance Report, refer to: School Performance Reports (staff login required).

Save the School Performance Reports link in the 'applications' section of My workspace for quick and easy access.

Panorama

Panorama (staff login required) is home to a school's performance data. Panorama supports a school to identify school strengths and potential areas for improvement.

Support for users of Panorama is available through Panorama Learning (staff login required), including videos about navigating the dashboards and reports available. Regular professional learning to support understanding data is also available through the Arc platform.

Panorama provides a list of Frequently asked questions (staff login required) about the features of the site and available data.

Data available on Panorama

Panorama provides a school's information and data through its dashboards and reports. Information on Panorama includes:

• school context:
  • enrolments and demographics
• student achievement:
  • NAPLAN
  • teacher judgement
  • PAT achievement
  • senior secondary measures
• student engagement:
  • absences and attendance
• survey results
  • student, staff and parent/carer opinions
• similar school comparisons (dashboards and supplementary school reports).

Accessing Panorama

The dashboards and reports are available using the main icons on the Panorama homepage.

Panorama dashboards and reports are available to principals. Principals can delegate access to dashboards to staff within their school.

School staff can add the Panorama landing page as an application in My workspace (staff login required).

Data use

The information provided through Panorama is intended to support detailed and structured conversations on school improvement and aid ongoing monitoring, understanding and planning. To this end, performance information may be shared with school staff, students and school council. Staff members must take all necessary precautions to prevent unauthorised access to, or copying of, school performance information, in accordance with the Privacy and Information Sharing policy.

The department's senior education improvement leaders (SEILs) and educational improvement leaders (EILs) use the data from Panorama to help guide discussions with schools. They can also provide insight into practices at high performing similar schools that feature in Panorama dashboards and supplementary school reports.

Data support

To assist with navigating Panorama dashboards, identifying key features and reading the various charts and tables, support materials have been provided. These include additional information sheets, hover text and videos, which can be accessed using the icons and links on individual dashboards.

Schools can also email school.performance.data@education.vic.gov.au with questions about data shown in Panorama dashboards and reports.
